Home Sale Inspections

By state law, any building in Massachusetts that is to be sold or legally transferred must first be inspected by the Fire Department. To pass inspection, a building must be equipped with a sufficient number of fully operative and properly located smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. This ensures that it will be safe for future occupants.

In Williamstown, fire inspections are conducted by the Fire Chief. To schedule your inspection, please contact the Fire Department at least 30 days in advance of sale. To avoid delays, we suggest that you call or email as soon as your closing date is confirmed. Because emergency response is our first priority, we regretfully cannot fulfill most requests for rush inspections or short turnarounds.
